Administratively Badut temple located at Karang Besuki
village, Dau district, Malang, East Java. The temple is the oldest temple in
East Java, was founded in the year 760 AD, become a relic of the royal
government Kanjuruhan centered in Dinoyo (Northwest of Malang). The temple
originally buried in the ground and covered by a big tree in the middle of rice
fields that discovered by EW Mauren Brechter in 1921 as a Dutch controller when
his working in Malang at the time.
The temple is facing to the west and surrounded by 4 mountains which are Mount Kawi (South), Mount Arjuna (west), Mount Tengger (north) and Mount Semeru (East). This temple was rebuild in 2 times, first in the year 1925-1926 and 1990-1991.
