The first presence of railway in Indonesia is beginning since The Rodi (Slaving’ or smoothly by Dutch is “Heerensteinten”) until today. Companies were nationalized as; Djawatan Kereta Api (DKA) was established after the independence of Indonesia, on September 28, 1945, or a month after the proclamation.
After the Rodi by Van den
Bosch in 1825-1830, the idea of railways proposed with the aim to transport the
agricultural crops from the Rodi System itself. The support reason is no longer
optimal use the road at that time. Finally, Colonel Van der Wijck proposed the
railway construction in 1840.
The first railway in
Indonesia was built in 1867 in Semarang. The route is Semarang - Tanggung
within 26 km by NISM (Nederlands-Indische Maatschappij Spoorweg), requested by
King Willem I for military and agricultural crops to the barn purposes in
Semarang. Then, Dutch government was built various railways to the barn in port
of Tanjung Priok and Tanjung Perak Surabaya since 1876.
It is the simply story about
the railway in Indonesia. Then, since 2015, the government plans is improve the
railway infrastructure in Indonesia by adding new lines, reactivation of
non-active line and also made double track, not only in the Java island
corridors, but also in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua corridors.
